3 Choices Hannah Focused On.

Hannah’s focus in life is to race horses like her Aunt Spupaleena.

The only problem is her folks disapprove. Her mother, determined to make a lady out of the young teen, and her father, aimed to keep her safe from the male jockeys, struggle to let her chase her dreams.

Hannah finagles Running Elk into a marriage agreement. Until his father arranges a marriage for his son with another young woman. Hannah’s heart is crushed. But Hannah learns she only needs her Creator’s strength to push her over the finish line.

She finds herself with three choices: racing, marriage, Creator’s true will for her, which she struggles to identify.

This December brings us to the same type of struggles. Who or what do we follow? Who or what do we place our identity in?

Writing Hannah’s Journey made me question what I tend to lean against. Who I expected to hold me up. My spouse. My career. My identity of motherhood and grandmotherhood. While all these are important to me, I find myself leaning on things that weren’t meant to take the weight. Things that seem to crumble under pressure.

Only Christ was meant to shoulder my burdens. While my family supports me, I have to remind myself it is Christ who died for me. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold.

Daily, I remind myself that I can do everything in Christ who strengthens me.

Everything.

And it is He.

While Hannah’s family learns to support her and not hover or demand, pushing her further into darkness, Hannah learns she needs to lean on Christ, as he is the only one who leads and strengthens her. Not Spupaleena. Not Running Elk or her best friend Falling Rain. Not her parents or siblings.
