Hoof and Heart Beats with Hannah Gardner

Me:

Hey, all! I’m here with my first interview with my female hero, Miss Hannah Gardner,

of my historical young adult novel, Hannah’s Journey.

Welcome, Hannah! How are you?

Hannah:

Hello, Carmen. I am quite well. *She smiles and crosses her ankles.* Thank you for asking.

Me:

 How’s training coming along?

Hannah:

Between my Auntie Spupaleena and Uncle Pekam, they keep me on my toes. But I would not change a thing. I am working with a new colt. She is feisty but certainly promising.

Me:

I know many of the male jockeys have given you a run for your money. Is there one that seems worse than the rest?

Hannah:

*She purses her lips, eyes shooting daggers.* Yes, ma’am, there is. His name is Wind Chaser. He is a bit of a disparate character with the manners of a coyote. He rather I disappear; however, I aim to stick around. *She chuckles.* You might say I’m the burr under his saddle. *Her eyes glimmer.*

Me:

Is there a special man in your life?

Hannah:

*She blushes, her gaze dropping to the ground.* I do have my eyes on someone.

Me:

Can you tell us a little something about him?

Hannah:

*She wrings her hands in her lap.* He is the most handsome fella I have ever laid my eyes on.  He’s a thinker. Always dreaming up ways to add a thrill to any race. Or make a life raisin’ horses and cattle. I can’t wait for us to marry and live near my folk’s ranch.

Me:

So your folks approve? What about your age, are you ready to settle down and raise a family at sixteen? Is Running Elk eager to live away from is people?

Hannah:

Well…I…um…things right now are a little complicated. *She gives a small smile.* There are a few minor details that need to be sorted out. I’m sure they’ll all come around. Eventually.

Running Elk:

*Peeks his head in and grins.* Did I hear my name?

Me:

You sure did. We were just talking about the future. Do you have any plans you would like to share with us?

Hannah:

*Fidgets in her chair.*

Running Elk:

Um…*He glances at Hannah.* Nikhanah, (Salish for “Oh my goodness”)

Loot (Salish for “no”), ma’am. *He blushes and leaves.*

Me:

And he knows about the marriage? *Lifts a brow.*

Hannah:

Well…I…of course he does. He’s a bit bashful is all. *She brows bunch.*

Me:

Well, I think that’s all the questions we have for you right now. If any readers have questions for Miss Hannah feel free to post them in the comments and subscribe so you know when she answers. You can check out more about Hannah’s book in Gardner Sibling Trilogy and her book’s Pinterest board.

    1. Carmen Peone says:

Thank you! I hesitated at first, having heard about doing this sometime last year, but found it was quite fun.

  2. I must put this on my “to do” list when I am ready with my current WIP: Interview my main characters. What a marvelous way to truly get to know these people that I thought I knew so well.

    1. Carmen Peone says:

Judith, it is so fun! I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

  3. Maureen lives on the Cahill Ranch in eastern Washington. She does ride horses and there’s even been a book written about her called “MAUREEN.” Actually, Hanna, her step-daughter is about your age. Leslie and you would have a great time together.

    1. Carmen Peone says:

Maureen, Hannah, and Leslie sound absolutely delightful. Perhaps I can convince Carmen to Interview us both. What do you think? Kindest regards, Hannah.

        1. Carmen Peone says:

Yes. I will chat with Carmen immediately about this most exciting idea and get back to you. Kindest regards, Hannah.

Hannah and Mary, I would love to have an interview with you and Leslie. Grand idea. Talk soon. Carmen

  4. Carmen Peone says:

Mary, it would be my pleasure. Tell me about her. Where does she live? Is she married? With children? Most importantly, does she ride horses? They are marvelous beasts, aren’t they? Kindest regards, Hannah.

  5. Carmen Peone says:

Thank you, Kelly. Hannah was an absolute treasure to visit with. I’m hooping she will come back some day.

  6. Carmen Peone says:

Thank you, Kelly! I had fun, and would love to visit again! Kindest regards, Hannah.

  7. Carmen, how clever! It never occurred to me to have an interview with a leading character. You’ve enticed the reader, engaged interest and managed quality promotion in one swoop! Way to go!

    1. Carmen Peone says:

Thank you, Mary! I took a free class through ACFW and this was suggested. I heard about other’s having fun doing the same thing, so researched it a bit and though I’d try it. It was a blast, and I plan to do more in the future.

    2. Carmen Peone says:

Thank you, Mary. Carmen and I had a marvelous time, although a smudge awkward at times. However, I would love to visit again sometime soon. Any time, really would be lovely. With reguards, Hannah.
