From the Farm to the Page

Welcome to Women Honoring the West!
I met Rhonda Lomeli in Deadwood, South Dakota, while shopping for my black Western Buckaroo hat featured in my novel Broken Bondage, Book 2, Seven Tine Ranch Romance. We had so much fun. Thanks Rhonda for helping me pick it out!
Let’s go ahead and meet this amazing lady who’s filled with joy, creativity, and talent.
Howdy everyone! Thank you, Carmen, for the invitation to join your blog.
The appeal of the Western lifestyle attracts me because of the wide and wild open spaces. With the fresh air and the sounds of a river flowing, time seems endless. The immense sky and panoramic views offer the opportunity to connect with nature and animals. The way of life also requires a strong work ethic and grit, skills I admire. I grew up reading western books, and when the opportunity came up, I watched Western movies and TV shows.
As a member of 4-H, I had my first opportunity to have chickens, goats, pigs, and lambs right in my own backyard.
I enjoyed county and state fairs when they came around once a year, and many times on weekends my family and I would attend rodeos. One of my memories was a rodeo in Cheyenne, Wyoming. It was truly exciting.
Besides horses thundering through an open field, my favorite ranch animal that would have to be the often-forgotten baby goat. The kid has the ability to entertain spectators with its antics and escapades without even trying. From jumping on anything to gain high ground to eating whatever it can find, this nimble little critter is as carefree as they come.
The inspiration behind my children’s book, There’s a Tussle in the Coop! came from the shenanigans coming from my chicken coop. The hens would squawk when the pecking order was challenged, and the feathers would fly. I used that to build on the idea of writing a book that helps children that might be navigating the tough times of bullying.
I additionally have a children’s series in the works of an animal working on being a cowboy. It’s a fun series that will be coming out this year.
My favorite line from my most recent release title, Make a Splash with Your Dash! is, “I’ll be capable because it’s necessary to control the reins of my own life.”
It’s a reminder for me to take charge of my own destiny by being prepared when life’s opportunities come my way.
My book series featuring a strong female lead character, Sage Weston, will be out in 2026.
The series has her chasing the antagonist over much of what is now Missouri, Louisiana, and Montana. It’s a series about justice, but also a little revenge to spice things up. Set in the 1850s through the 1890s, it encompasses many aspects of life during that time frame but often touches on the quantities of life that are timeless.
Although I don’t live on a ranch, when it comes to writing and my love of all things western, I’ve been lucky enough to unite the two.
