My guest author today is from Canada. Welcome Marilynn Dawson.
She has written a series of studies about Everyday Life as the Bride of Christ.
What inspired you to write the books and poetry??
The series, “Becoming the Bride of Christ: A Personal Journey” was inspired by the fact that as I shared what God was doing in my life, people began to encourage me to put it in a book. That book became a study when several reviewers suggested breaking up the content to make it easier to get through. (It is intense reading) Turning my story into a study caused the book to become larger than my printer would accept, so it turned into a small series consisting of six volumes and a Leader’s Guide.
Some of the poetry shared in that series echo other poetry that I’ve done as well. Contemplative worship spawned the poetry shared in that series. Similar to many of the subjects found in the series, much of my writing grows out of issues, passions, or contemplative worship.
My new book, “Mom’s Little Black Book: Godly Advice for the High School Graduate”, was spawned out of the desire to come up with something I could give my two graduating teenagers something they’d treasure for years to come. I’d seen other quote books, then it hit me to make one of my own, filled with tidbits of practical advice and Scripture that they could refer back to at any time. Editors began getting excited over it and one ordered a copy for her own graduating daughter.
What is your favorite hobby?
I’d have to say that’s a toss up between writing, reading, puzzles, and walking. None of which I engage in as often as I’d like. I enjoy singing, harmonizing with the lead singer, as well. Above all my hobbies, that is the one talent/skill that takes me into God’s presence the fastest.
Marilynn grew up in a solid Christian home, coming to Christ at the age of 7. She has been actively involved in Church life since age 10, including activities such as joining her Mom and sister in singing special numbers, choir, teaching Sunday School, leading Sunday School open session, planning Sunday School lessons, and more. Marilynn attended both public and private schools growing up. She attended North Island Community College on Vancouver Island and Trend College in Kelowna, obtaining certificates in receptionist work and Comptia A+ computer repair.
Throughout her life, Marilynn has written poetry and published a few of them in the American Poetry Anthology(two issues). She currently does freelance work for a technical blog in Alberta. She’s also written numerous unpublished articles on end-time eschatology and the news, written unpublished short stories, word studies and more.
Marilynn lives with her two teenagers, cat and gerbils, in Kelowna, BC Canada. Her day job sees her fix computers, program cash registers, and engage in multimedia for her church. In the evenings and on weekends she’s a soundtech helping with various events through the year from funerals to workshops to concerts and weddings. Marilynn sings in the choir, holding down the tenor section, and sang on her church’s praise teams for several years as an alto or tenor substitute.

This New Study Offers an Imersive Look at Living Every Day Life as the Bride of Christ
“It was then that an unmistakable sensation came over me, as if God were holding me in a 360 degree embrace and saying, “NOW I can love you!” Fresh tears began to flow as I sat there soaking in a love I had never anticipated could ever flow from God to me. . . What followed led to the lessons, discoveries and revelations found in this series!”
Kelowna, BC Canada – September 2, 2012 – “Becoming the Bride of Christ: A Personal Journey” chronicles Marilynn’s personal journey as she learns to live with God as unseen Husband and Father in the home. It’s about learning to appropriate many Scriptural concepts that have been overly spiritualized, and bringing them down to where life is lived every day.
This series can be read as an account of the lessons God’s actively teaching her, or it can be engaged in as a personal or group Bible study. There is quite a bit of Scripture in every chapter, as well as questions to help a person appropriate these lessons into their own life.
One of Marilynn’s goals is to share a story that men as well as women can read and glean from. Too often presentations on the Bride of Christ have been geared toward women when Scripture says the Church, who is referred to as the Bride of Christ, is made up of men and women. She writes from a women’s perspective, but desires that men will be able to gather helpful insight, not just women. After all, everyone is called to live out the commands of Christ in everyday life.
Volumes One to Six and the Leader’s Guide are available now from:
Marilynn has also recently written: Mom’s Little Black Book.
God says to raise up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. God also urges parents to ensure that their children, like arrows from a quiver placed in the bow-string, fly straight and true. It is Marilynn’s hope that these tidbits of advice assist your youth to fly straight and true as they go out to become all that God created and designed them to be.
