Inspirational Western Women with Lisa Jordan

This is the month to give thanks, and I’m certainly thankful and honored to have Inspirational Western Women like Lisa Jordan with us today! She’s a Love Inspired Author I met through Novel Academy, owned by Susan May Warran. Lisa is a woman with a big, gentle heart. She is creative, fun, quite talented, and one of my mentors.

Let’s hear from Lisa!

Carmen: What is your ranching background?
Lisa: I have no experience whatsoever with ranching. I grew up on my grandparents’ dairy farm in Pennsylvania, so I am familiar with some aspects of farming that may mirror ranching. However, I haven’t been on a horse since I was a child.

Though I do love the beauty of the country.

Carmen: What attracts you the most about the Western lifestyle?
Lisa: Waking up to sunrises caressing the mountaintops has to be one of the most special times of the day. I also appreciate the hard work and dedication of those who are responsible for maintaining ranches. As mentioned above, I don’t have a ranching background, but I do have relatives who are farmers. Farmers and ranchers are the backbone of our country.

Carmen: What is the inspiration behind the book you’re working on?
Lisa: My husband started watching Heartland on Netflix and suggested I watch it. At first, I was hesitant, but once I began, I couldn’t stop. Loved the show. I loved the family dynamic centered around the ranch.

After having a conversation with my editor about growing my readership, I decided writing books set in the West would be an exciting and challenging way to grow my writing skills and my readership.

Carmen: Who’s your favorite character?
Lisa: That’s like asking which of my sons is my favorite. 🙂 Actually, I do admire Deacon Stone, the patriarch of my Stone family in this new series. Deacon is based on the men of God in my life who continually inspire and help me to grow in my walk with the Lord. He loves his family and wants only the best for them, even if that means stepping back and allowing them to make mistakes, which will draw them closer to the Lord.

Carmen: What’s your favorite ranch animal and why?
Lisa: I’m not so sure I have a favorite ranch animal unless dogs count. Nearly anything baby is precious to see, especially baby goats.
